After completing and reflecting upon project 1, I can confidently say that I am one step closer in the right direction on my artist's journey. Zine creation was always something that had interested me - having been introduced to them a few years ago and starting a small collection, for some reason creating my own never crossed my mind; although the idea of creating a small bound booklet of art was something that was reminiscent of my childhood comic book making. As soon as I started, I couldn't stop, first 6 drawings, then 8, then 12 - it's almost as if I already had the idea to create this zine before I even started. Before I even knew it I had a completed zine in front of me (unbound but complete), after flipping through its pages and realizing the physical booklet that I had just assembled, I needed to make more. Standing at the printer in the UMC for 15 minutes, I waited as all 60 of my zine pages were printed. That night I sat, folded and threaded bindings for all 20 booklets. There was something so nice about holding all of them, a mass produced piece of art that could be distributed at shop fronts, hidden in bookcases, left in miniature libraries, the possibilities are really endless. I'm happy to say that Trash Flip will not be the one and only zine I fold in my life, I already plan on making more to distribute in an attempt to get my name out there in the community.
